Building a World Championship Team to End Human Trafficking- Kevin Malone

This presentation was given at the 2018 Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation Global Summit hosted by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. (EndExploitationSummit.com)

KEVIN MALONE
President of the Board, U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking

While many people use sports analogies to get their point across, Kevin Malone isn’t using an analogy, but instead he’s utilizing real-world experience from the world of professional baseball to apply his knowledge and passion to end human trafficking in America. It’s not about the individual person or single organization, but instead it is going to take a collective effort by everyone involved in this fight to make real progress. Learn from someone who knows how to build world championship teams how the anti-trafficking world must come together, increasing capacity, expanding collaboration, and replicating successful and promising practices already being implemented in parts of the country. While fundraising is viewed competitively by many organizations in this fight, the reality is that there are unending resources waiting to be poured into anti-trafficking when winning strategies can be implemented.

Kevin Malone retired in 2001 after three years as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending an illustrious 17 year career

Malone played baseball at the University of Louisville and is in the Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Administration in 1980 and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. In 1985, Kevin was hired by the California Angels and in 1989, became a Scouting Supervisor for the Minnesota Twins. Malone helped the Twins defeat the Atlanta Braves to win the 1991 World Series.

In 1994, Kevin was named General Manager of the Montreal Expos. In that strike shortened season, the Expos finished with the best record (74-40) in Major League Baseball. In 1995, Malone was named “The Best General Manager in the Game.” In 1996-97, Kevin was the Assistant General Manager of the Baltimore Orioles, who advanced to the American League Championship Series both years.

Kevin in 2005 opened and owned the Mercedes-Benz of Valencia dealership in Los Angeles. He was Executive Producer on three films; “Like Dandelion Dust,” “Faith of Our Fathers,” and the “SHAWN Movie.” Learning of human trafficking in 2009, Malone has been focused on ending child sex slavery ever since. In 2014 Malone started Protect The P.A.T.H. and in 2016 he co-founded the United States Institute Against Human Trafficking.
